Opal II Mobile TV encapsulator

The Thomson Opal II Mobile TV encapsulator provides solutions to address DVB-H and DVB-SH markets. It combines advanced IP encapsulation with DVB-H/SH format-specific features, while it offers statistical time slicing, regionalization, and the ability to share the time slicers between multiple mobile network operators.

The time-slice mechanism lets users define the burst duration and the burst cycle time of the system in which different packet IDs are added or removed. A variety of advanced configuration capabilities are available. Since it handles multiple independent time slicers, the Opal TV encapsulator permits each to have its own period and burst duration, allowing multiple services to have different time slicing characteristics, which you can configure on the fly without interrupting service. Opal also supports different user-definable forward error correction policies, including fixed FEC ratio, fixed quantity of FEC, or best-effort FEC according to the available space on the burst.
