The Thomson Flextream™ statistical multiplexing solution lets you deliver more channels within the same fixed-bandwidth satellite, cable, or terrestrial connection. Designed for use with our ViBE and NetProcessor compression system, it can increase your bandwidth utilization by up to 30 percent by allocates the bit rate needed for multiple services based on predefined quality targets and priority.

Flextream™ is unique with its capability to dynamically share a mixed pool of SD and HD channels as well as MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 signals making it ideal for Terrestrial in addition to Satellite networks. In addition to format flexibility, Flextream also offering flexibility in terms of supporting encoders located in separate locations from the multiplexer. This reduces the number of decode-recode cycles necessary, preserves picture quality, and reduces the need for large bandwidth allocations to the contribution path.
